What is it? The Verizon LifeLine Program offers discounts on local telephone service to low-income families. LifeLine only provides discounts on local telephone calls. (Local calls are calls within the five boroughs of New York City.) Long distance service is not discounted. This program can save you over $100 per year on telephone service for your home. Cell phones are not discounted through LifeLine. What do you get? You pay null per month plus 9¢ for each local call you make. You save between $14.11 and $14.53 on your phone bill each month. You can get a discount on the installation fee. You'll only pay $10 instead of the regular $85 installation fee. How long do you get it? You can get LifeLine as long as you continue to qualify, but you'll have to re-certify every year. Verizon will send you a notice by mail reminding you to re-certify. You will need to provide the documents in the 'What Do I Need to Bring...?' box when you re-certify. |
