What is it? Medicaid is a federally funded health insurance program for people with limited income and resources. What do you get? Free medical services such as doctors’ services, dental care, eyeglasses, home care, hospital care, and many other health-related services. Most people who receive Medicaid in NYC must enroll in a managed care plan. Managed care is a health plan provided by a private Health Maintenance Organization (HMO). You can choose from a number of managed care plans. How long do you get it? You can get Medicaid as long as you still qualify but you'll need to recertify every 12 months. 'Re-certify' means that a Medicaid worker checks that you are still eligible for Medicaid. |
