Looking for an affordable apartment to rent?

Quick Facts
What is it?
The New York City Housing Authority operates 345 housing developments in the five boroughs of New York City. The affordable rental units in these developments can be obtained through an application and screening process.

What do you get?
If you meet eligibility criteria and are selected from the wait list, you (and your family) will be able to move in to your new apartment. Rents for public housing units are set at 30% of the household’s gross income. For example, if your household’s gross monthly income is $2,000, your rent cannot be more than $600 per month.

How long do you get it
You can stay in the apartment as long as you still meet the eligibility requirements and guidelines for your development.

Look Out
For most people, public housing is not an immediate option. There are over 140,000 applicants currently waiting for public housing, as the demand for apartments far exceeds the supply.
