NYC SafeStart

The NYC SafeStart Account, which was developed by the Office of Financial Empowerment in partnership with five banks and five credit unions, is a safe and affordable "starter" account for New Yorkers who need banking services. The NYC SafeStart Account has special features avoid fees and help protect your money:
  • No overdraft fees
  • No monthly fees if minimum balance is met
  • Low minimum balance ($25 or less)
  • ATM Card (not for debit purchases)

Office of Financial Empowerment

The New York City Office of Financial Empowerment has information to help you access loans and financial support, create a budget to manage your money, access bank accounts and savings strategies, manage debt and credit problems, and protect yourself from financial crime and theft. The city also provides financial training services including free one-on-one financial counseling and classes to help you learn how to manage a budget, escape debt and improve your finances. Start Small Think Big

Start Small works with low-income families in the South Bronx to improve financial empowerment and opportunity. Start Small provides affordable consumer credit for small loans as well as small business planning and education. The program addresses personal finance problems as well as business finance strategies, to help families build income and avoid debt. Start Small also provides legal assistance for its clients.
