What is it?
Monthly cash benefits distributed through the Social Security Administration to people who have recently worked and paid Social Security taxes and are unable to work for a year or more because of a disability.

What do you get?
Your benefit amount is based on your lifetime earnings and can be seen on your Social Security Statement. Statements are mailed once a year to workers over the age of 25 and can be requested at any time. To have a statement sent to you complete the request form.

How long do you get it?
Benefits continue until you are able to work on a regular basis.
